=Membership=Applicants must meet one The SDI was founded in 1980 for the purpose of gathering together persons of Irish origin, and for preserving and cherishing the following qualifications:memories of our ancestors of Ireland, and to reflect with affection upon the Emerald Isle. This has, at times, involved sponsorship of ''[[Irish-American Genealogist]]''. Today the scholarly and genealogical data gathered are submitted to ''The [[Augustan Omnibus]]'' and the [[Family of Augustans Study Group]].

* Hereditary class members must show a proven lineage that includes three generations The SDI is governed by the [[Dean of residence in Ireland; or* Royal class members must show a proven lineage that includes any historic Irish High Kingthe SDI]], Provincial Kingappointed by and answerable to the [[President]] of the Augustan Society. Royal Life Member (RLM)''': Eligibility Membership in the SDI is restricted to persons who can demonstrate through research and scholarship that he or she has an unbroken descent from any historic Irish High King, Provincial King, or Sub-King, residing available in Ireland prior to 1170 (the date of the beginning of the Anglo-Norman invasion of Henry II).two exclusive classes:

Many people '''Royal Life Class''' is available to persons who can prove descent through Diarmait MacMurchada (Dermot Mac Murroughfrom any historic Irish High King, 1100–1171)Provincial King, or Sub-King of Leinster, and his wife Mor O'Toole, father-residing in-law and mother-in-law respectively of Richard de Clare Ireland prior to 1170 ("Strongbow," circa 1130–1177), 2nd Earl the date of Pembroke, Justiciar the beginning of Ireland, whose daughter Isabel married the great Sir William Marshall (1146–1219), 3rd Earl Anglo-Norman invasion of Pembroke and Regent of England (1216Henry&ndashnbsp;1219II). However, any pre-1170 Irish High King, Provincial King or Sub-King is acceptable if lineages are proven.

Pedigree lines based upon the works of O'Hart or O'Duirnin are not acceptable. Acceptable references for lineages include the (New) 'Hereditary Life Class'Complete Peerage'' 1910–1959; ''Ancestral Roots of Sixty Colonists...'' (5th editionis available to persons who cannot qualify for Royal Life Membership, 1976); ''Magna Charta Sureties'', 1215... (3rd edition, 1979); and Francis John Byrne's ''but who can prove descent from an Irish Kings and High Kings'' (1973)family who lived in Ireland a minimum of three generations.

'''II. Hereditary Life Member (HLM)''': Eligibility is restricted Members may not belong to persons who cannot demonstrate Royal Life Membership (because of the vast destruction of genealogical records at Four Courts, Dublin in 1922, or for other reasons), but who can prove descent from some Irish family. There is no restriction as to time period, but proof must be provided that he or she has Celtic-Irish descent, or descent from other ancestors who lived in Ireland a minimum of three generationsmore than one class.

The entry fee is $100; $50 for converting from Hereditary to Royal member at a later date; plus a genealogist's fee of $5/generation [[Genealogist Fee]] for each lineage submitted, including corrections and extensions. No fees need attach for lineages or portions of lineages already recognized by The Augustan Society, and a credit will be issued for any such duplication.  ==Insignia==

==Induction Process== # Petitioners must submit to [[Headquarters]] a completed petition, lineage in [[Standard Lineage Format]] or GED, payment of the Entry Fee, payment of the [[Genealogist Fee]], and such other evidence of qualification as may be needed. [[Headquarters Staff]] may complete the petition form if all data is supplied in another format.# Headquarters Staff will confirm that the lineage is in Standard Lineage Format and appears complete. Failing this, they will remand the lineage to the petitioner for additional information.# Headquarters Staff will forward the lineage to the [[Genealogy Committee]] for review. That Committee will convert the lineage into Standard Lineage Format and into a GED file, if needed.# The Lineage being accepted by the Genealogy Committee, Headquarters Staff will create a letter of welcome and a certificate of membership, these may be signed by the Dean either physically or electronically at his discretion. If there is no Dean or they are unresponsive, a member of Headquarters Staff will sign. Headquarters Staff will apply the corporate seal to the certificate before it is sent.# Headquarters Staff will notify the ''[[Augustæum]]'' Editor of the induction if the petitioner is an Augustan Member.# Headquarters Staff will notify the [[Custodian of Insignia]] of the induction.# The [[Custodian of Insignia]] will send the appropriate insignia with a cover letter.  ==Administration== The Society of Descendants of Ireland is lead by a the [[Dean of the SDI|Dean]] who is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the [[President]]. Once membership reaches ten five active memberswho are also members of The Augustan Society, the Dean may call for an election to said office; when membership reaches 24there are ten, he must call an election. Such elections will be subject to confirmation by the [[Board]]. All funds received and disbursed will be handled by the [[Assistant Treasurer]], and any balance placed in the [[SDI Fund]], which will be used only for the purposes of the SDI as directed by the Dean or [[President]], subject to Board approval of the annual budget.
