It is the duty of the Advertising Manager to maximize both, first by selling ad space in the absolute, and second to save the Editor from having to print blank space or clipart, neither of which promote the goal of the publication.
Ads are offered by the quarter page, vertical half page, horizontal half page, and full page. There is no additional charge for cover 3 (inside back cover), and ad space is normally not available on the outside covers, cover 2 (inside front cover), or page 3 (opposite cover 2). However, proposals for such may be entertainedby the [[Omnibus Editor]].
The price of ads is presently set at a rate that's approximately twice the cost of printing the space. Thus half pages are twice the cost of quarters and half the cost of full pages. This is subject to change at the Advertising Manager's discretion, provided that the revenue target of twice the raw cost is met.
The goal of the Advertising Manager is to have enough ads on order that the Production Editor has enough to use for formatting purposes. A target for the number of ads to have on hand has not been set.
The Advertising Manager will provide [[Headquarters]] with the mailing address of each advertiser who is not a member. A complimentary copy of the first issue in which their ad appears will be sent; copies of additional insertions will be sent for the standard subscription rate (part-year subscriptions . On request, tear sheets will be accepted)provided to non-member advertisers.
The Advertising Manager is responsible for contacting past and present advertisers to encourage them to purchase additional advertising. Calling these "renewals" has been found an effective sales tool. Sales of multiple insertions will reduce the workload and overhead of this office.
