In order to recruit and , retain , and recover members, The Augustan Society, Inc., has need of a '''Membership Committee'''. For reasons not well understood, it has at times been created a "Committee-of-the-Whole" of the [[Board]]. Thus it is chaired by the [[President]], absent his delegation of that role to another [[Directors|Director]]or deliberately abandoned altogether.
As a The Committee-of-is under the-Wholedirection of a Chairman, it's members are de jure who is appointed by and serves at the members pleasure of the Board of Directors[[President]]. Thus all Directors are Members Said chairman may name any number of willing members [[in good standing]] to the Committee, with committee. The President and [[Headquarters Staff]] as are ex-officio members.
The Committee-of-the-Whole is responsible for providing the overall leadership, planning, and oversight for the Society's strategy for membership development and marketing.
Duties of the committee include:
<li>Conducting periodic [[Skill Needs Survey|Skill Needs Surveys]] to determine what skills are needed by the various Committees and Sub-Groups;</li>
 
<li>Conducting periodic [[Member Skills Survey|Member Skills Surveys]] to determine what skills are posessed by members who might be asked to put them to use on behalf of the various Committees and Sub-Groups;</li>
<li>Ensuring strategic focus and alignment with the Society's organization objectives, operational strategy, and market needs;</li>
* Marketing Sub-Committee was assigned the task of marketing the Society outside of member recruitment. Disbanded March 2021.

As this is a committee of the Board, and not identical to it, the The Committee must hold meetings (in person, by teleconference, videoconference, or email) and achieve a majority concurrance for any actions or recommendations to be made to the Board, notwithstanding that they are the same people. Such documentation is required both the to comply with state law and to avoid filling Board minutes with ensure that Agenda items carry the actions approval of a majority of the Committee (where they do not belong).
