'''Regular Membership ''' in The Augustan Society, Inc., may be entered into in two ways:
# * New members# * Returning members
The procedure for handling each is slightly different.
In both cases Previously, a [[Petition for Membership]] is was required. Normally, and these are completed by still available, primarily to promote membership. In rare casesreinstatments directly, Staff may create a petition when one is not submittedpetitions are no longer required.
Paper petitions, printouts of PDF petitions, and other formats with membership data are filed under the member's name. It is understood that some data will exist only on the web site; these do not need to be printed. Once the petition and payment are in hand at HQHeadquarters, the procedure is: <ol><li>Check the [[Membership Book]] to see if the petition is a former member. If so, refer to the procedure under [[Return to Membership]].</li> <li>Enter the petitioner's name in the Membership Book. A [[Membership Number]] should be assigned by the web site. In cases where one is not, a transation of $0 is entered with the "assign number" box checked.</li> <li>Review or create a member record on the web site. Adjust entries to standard format.</li> <li>For those who join online, [[Headquarters Staff]] will send an email of welcome with a PDF copy of the current ''[[August&aelig;um]]'' attached. <ul><li>''Note: At present, most email sent to Gmail addresses is being bounced. In such cases, [[Headquarters Staff]] will ask a volunteer with a Gmail account to forward.''</li></ul></li> <li>Create a Welcome letter from the [[Secretary]] (presently signed electronically).</li> <li>Create a [[Membership Card]], signed by a member of Headquarters Staff.</li> <li>Create a [[Certificate]] of Membership, signed by the President and Secretary (presently done electronically), and affix the Corporate Seal.</li> <li>Create a Welcome memo from [[Headquarters Staff]].</li> <li>Mail the above four items, plus the current ''[[Augustan Omnibus]]'' to the new member. If they did not join online, also send the current ''[[August&aelig;um]]</li> <li>Notify the [[Custodian of Insignia]] to send a [[Insignia|Member Pin]] to the new member.</li> <li>Add a notice of the new member to the [[Agenda]] for the next regular meeting of the [[Board]].</li> <li>Send an email notice to such officers as have requested such notice, informing them of the new member.</li></ol>
# Check the [[Master Roster]] to see if the petition is a former member. If so:
## Place his reelection on the next available [[Board#Agendae|Agenda]] for [[Board]] review and approval. The Board will want to know the petitioner's reasons for dropping his membership and returning, and Consuls should obtain such data before the meeting. If the cause is "financial" or "health", no further details are required.
## If the Board rejects the petition, so notify the petitioner and refund all but the [[Petition Fee]] (presently $15).
## If the Board re-elects the petitioner to membership, proceed as follows:
# Enter the petitioner's name in the Master Roster and assign a [[Membership Number]] (except for returning members).
# Create a [[Secretary's Welcome|letter of welcome]] from the [[Secretary]] (presently signed electronically).
# Create a [[Membership Card]], signed by a Consul (except returning members, unless requested).
# Create a [[Certificate of Membership]], presently signed electronically by the President and Secretary, and affix the Corporate Seal (except returning members, unless requested).
# Create a [[Consuls' Welcome|memo of welcome]] from the Consuls.
# Mail the above four items, plus the current [[August&aelig;um]] and the current [[The Augustan Omnibus|Ominbus]] to the new member.
# Notify the [[Custodian of Insignia]] to send a [[Member Pin]] to the new member.*
# Enter the new member's data into the [[Master Roster]].
# Send an email to the [[Directors]] informing them of the new member (but not a returning member), including the text of their petition.
# After two weeks, send a summary of their interests to the list of [[Committee Chairmen]].
