The Society of Descendants of Scotland is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Augustan Society, Inc. Online data is [http://augustansociety.org/cpage.php?pt=13 here].
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:
* Hereditary class members must show a proven lineage that includes three generations of residence in Scotland; or
* Royal class members must show a proven lineage that includes a King of Scotland.
This society was organized to further interest in the study of Scotland and scottish emigrants. This has, at times, involved sponsorship of ''[[Scottish-American Genealogist]]''. Today the scholarly and genealogical data gathered are submitted to [[The Augustan Omnibus]] and the [[Family of Augustans]] project.
Membership in the society is open to those who meet the following qualifications for each class of membership:
* Hereditary class — Must prove descent that shows three generations of ancestors resident in Scotland.
* ==Membership Classes== Membership in the society is available in two exclusive classes: '''Royal class — Must Life Class''' is available to persons who can prove descent from any King of Scotland. '''Hereditary Life Class''' is available to persons who cannot qualify for Royal Life Class, but who can prove descent from a Scottish family who lived in Scotland a minimum of three generations. The entry fee is $100; $50 for converting from Hereditary to Royal class at a later date; plus a genealogist's fee of $5/generation for each lineage submitted, including corrections and extensions. No fees need attach for lineages or portions of lineages already recognized by The Augustan Society, and a scottish kingcredit will be issued for any such duplication.
Petitioners may apply for both classes simultaneously for the same price. The entry fee is $100 for one or two classes at once; $50 for adding a class later; plus a genealogist's fee of $5/generation for each lineage submitted, including corrections and extensions.
