Consuls' vision for the future of the Sub-Groups of The Augustan Society, Inc., is:
Sub-Groups of the Society are of three types:
# Senior Senior Sub-Groups
# Lineage Groups
# Unrelated groups
If the third items seems odd, it is because several organizations with related goals have been given to the Society, and others are widely associated with the Society due to having had common management during the time of our Founder. This page also mentions groups that have been renamed, merged, or abolished as a permanent record of former activities.
Senior Sub-Groups
The senior sub-groups are distinguished by having a variety of requirements for entry, which in all cases now includes membership in the Society in ==Senior Good StandingSub-Groups, registration of arms with the Society, an entry fee, insignia, and annual dues.==

It is governed by the Eagle Council, to whom has been assigned the responsibility to set Membership Privileges, the Warrant of Precedence, the Five-Year Plan, and to have the right of first consideration of any amendments to the Mission Statement and Vision Statement. While it is called to meet not less than annually, the addition of the Five-Year Plan responsibility has caused some to advocate for quarterly meetings.
This exists to foster the true ideals of chivalry. Members fulfill their duties to their fellow men through an active practice of the Code of Chivalry and by individual and concerted charitable activities, and to sponsor and maintain the Proposal: The Rose ChapelEagle Council at Headquarters (when possible). ===Hereditary The Order of Armigerous Augustans===has, at times, been unable to appoint enough Council members to muster a quorum. It has been suggested that standards be lowered at such times to permit continued operation.
This group was disbanded, and resurrection is not presently recommended. A clear statement of purpose related to the Society's Proposal: The MissionOrder of the Augustan Eagle would be required before reconstitution should be consideredmaintain its standards for membership, even if that might mean periods of dormancy result.

Proposal: The Society should consider the creation of additional ===Lineage GroupsNoble Company of the Rose in areas not presently served by another organization, and where there is sufficient member interest to suggest that the new group would be a productive part of the Society's programs. It may be prudent to hold off on this proposal until existing Lineage Groups have at least a Dean.===

Renamed Society of Descendants of Ireland.
===Order of Descendants of Scotland===The Noble Company is governed by the Rose Council. It is called to meet not less than annually.
Renamed Society In recent years, most participation by Rose Council members has been via proxy, despite the meetings being held via teleconference, largely negating the value of Descendants of Scotlandtheir offices.
Order Proposal: The Noble Company of the Conqueror and Order of Rose should repeal the Conquerorprovision of their Rule that permits proxies at meetings.s Companions
These two were merged and renamed Society of Descendants of the Conquest.
==The Company has, at times, been unable to appoint enough Council members to muster a quorum. When there are not enough members of the Rose Council to attain a quorum, the Company is operated under an individual appointed by the Magister Rosae or the Study GroupsPresident==(often the Rose Assistant Chancellor) until such time as a quorum is again possible.
Many of Proposal: The Society should document the programs process for imposing Administrative governance, the process of the Society are by nature interdisciplinary. Indeed, it is our ability to span conventional topics that is one of the Society's great strengths. As suchgovernance, there are many projects that do not find a natural and obvious home in one of the five primary subject areasprocess for returning to normal operation. For this reason, and because they don't need discipline-specific oversight, it is appropriate to create these projects as Study Groups under separate administration.
Proposal: The Society should organized interdisciplinary projects, and some discipline-specific projects, as Study Groups without attachment to a specific topical department, rather than as Committees.
Proposal: The Society should name an Officer to have general supervision of ==Study Lineage Groups. The Vice-President should be considered for this position, as it will serve them as preparation for their succession to the presidency.==
===Descents from Antiquity===The lineage groups are distinguished by the requirements for entry, which do not include Augustan membership, and which do include lifetime membership, insignia, and in most cases a proven descent.
This a project to propose and prove or disprove descents from antiquity. This will involve publishing proposed lineages as a tool to generate discussion and consensus. A final report on each link will be published in The Augustan Omnibus. These groups presently comprise:
Proposal: The * Society should more clearly specify and publish the purpose and scope of Descendants of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem* Descents from AntiquitySociety of Descendants of Ireland* Society of Descendants of Scotland* Society of Descendants of the Conquest project.
Proposal: The Society should more clearly identify the individual lines that it attempts to prove or disprove with name Deans for each of the Descents from AntiquityLineage Groups project, and to encourage them to organize sufficiently that they may contribute to Society programs with more than their entry fees.
Proposal: The Society should produce reports on each consider the creation of the lines studied by the additional Descents from AntiquityLineage Groups project on a regular basis until each in areas not presently served by another organization, and where there is proven or disproven, with sufficient member interest to suggest that the final reports on each published in new group would be a productive part of the Augustan OmnibusSociety's programs.
Family of Augustans
The objective of this project is to computerize lineages of Augustans whose genealogies are stored at Headquarters or have appeared in various Society publications with the intent to demonstrate our interrelatedness, and to identify common ancestors, both for the sake of fraternity and to assist one another with genealogical research.==Unrelated Groups==
Proposal: The Society should document and publish the process by which the ===Family of AugustansInternational Chivalric Institute project is to be pursued.===
Proposal: The Society should place the combined lineages included in the International Chivalric Institute (ICI) was organized by our Family of AugustansFounder project online for use by members and possibly othersto encourage discussion of chivalric issues. This should take It's primary manifestation was the form monthly ICI Members' Newsletter. The relaunch of a useful web sitethis newsletter, not just a collection of GED filesperhaps under the Chivalry Committee may be worth considering.
==Unrelated Groups==Proposal: If enough records are available, organize a "final report" of the International Chivalric Institute and formally merge it into the Society.
Association Heraldry Society of Knights Bachelorthe USA
===This was organized by our International Chivalric InstituteFounder===for purposes not entirely clear. Two issues of a newsletter are held. It has been inactive for quite some time.
===Proposal: If enough records are available, organize a "final report" of the Heraldry Society of the USA===and formally merge it into the Society.
Octavian Society
===This was organized by our Royal Association Founder as an emergency backup for the Society, and was a sole proprietorship. This was in (over)reaction to a movement by some dissident members to take over the Society and take it in a direction our Founder felt unacceptable. There is a non-zero possibility that this may be needed again, perhaps as an umbrella organization who would purchase the Society and operate it, perhaps on a for-profit basis, with more stable management than the Society can muster. The primary activity of Knights Bachelorthe Octavian Society was to publish the Journal of Ancient & Medieval Studies (JAMS) annually for a couple of decades. A few issues of their newsletter have been located, but a decision on reprinting them should wait until the bulk of the issues are available for review. JAMS may be worth reviving once The Augustan Omnibus=== is on a solid footing and diverting appropriate articles will not harm it.
