The Augustan Society, Inc., covers the field of [[Heraldry]]. This field is rather broad, and national traditions vary substantially in laws, rules, customs, and language. Thus it is considered prudent to name a number of '''Vice-Justiciars''', each an expert in one national heraldic tradition.
These officers are styled "“Vice-Justiciar for American Heraldry", ” ..."“Germanic Heraldry", ” etc. They are appointed by the [[Justiciar General]] and serve at his pleasure. There is no limit to the number of Vice-Justiciars that may be appointed, and more than one may be appointed for each heraldic jurisdiction. While these additional offerciers should properly be termed "“Assistant Vice-Justiciars", ” it is understood that this may not be politically wise in some situations.
''Note: The United Kingdom shall be considered two jurisdictions as the College of Arms and the Lord Lyon do not have overlapping jurisdiction.''
