The chief executive officer of The Augustan Society, Inc., is the President. He is elected annually by and from the Board of Directors. His membership on the Board is his only qualification.

He is tasked to:

  • Serve as chief executive officer; and subject to the control of the Board shall supervise and control the affairs of the corporation.
  • Chair meetings of the Membership.
  • Chair meetings of the Board in the absence of the Chairman.
  • Execute deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, checks, and other instruments, though the responsibility for these may be assigned to others with the consent of the Board. Often these powers are delegated to a Business Agent by vote of the Board.
  • Appoint the Chairmen of all Committees (but not committee members or sub-committee chairmen).
  • Serve as an ex officio member of all standing committees of the corporation save the Nominating Committee.
  • Serve as Chief of the Order of the Order of the Augustan Eagle.
  • Perform all other duties incident to his office and such other duties as may be required by law or by the By-Laws, or which may be prescribed from time to time by the Board of Directors.

Except for Chief of the Order (of the Augustan Eagle), it is frowned upon for the President to hold other offices such as a committee chairman, dean, or Study Group Coordinator. Membership in such groups is acceptable, but great care must be taken not to offend or overrule the sitting chairman while doing so.

The President, in his capacity as the official face of the Society, may designate special liaisons to other groups. To date, such have been appointed for:

  • American College of Heraldry
  • International Association of Amateur Heralds
  • Medal and Order Society of America
  • Royal Heraldry Society of Canada
