The Genealogy Department and the Genealogy Committee of The Augustan Society, Inc., are headed by the Genealogy Committee Chairman who is named by and serves at the pleasure of the President. He is responsible for the genealogical activities of the Society and its sub-groups.

The duties of the Genealogy Committee Chairman include:

  • Establish and maintain standards of proof, with member input, for submitted lineages to our various subgroups that require them;
  • Assist, when called upon, to evaluate the accuracy of lineages submitted for said subgroups; and
  • Coordinate projects that fall under the scope of this committee.

Procedures for lineage approval:

  1. Receive application
  2. Examine application for sources and whether they meet our requirements If so, check sources to verify whether it supports the lineage claim. if not, request better sources from applicant If data is verified, application is approved If verifiable data is not listed in original application, or not forthcoming after it is requested, application is denied and applicant advised to try again later with verifiable sources Obtain a vote of the majority of the Genealogy Committee concurring on the adequacy of the lineage, and submit same to the Board for confirmation
