The Augustan Society, Inc., has part of it's purpose the training and development of students of heraldry, both members and non-members. As a result, the Society has long maintained a list of Registered Heraldists who have demonstrated their competence in this field.

At present, heraldic training and review of heraldic competence are separate issues.

The Heraldry Training Study Group has been established to develop a formal training program in international heraldry.

A text likely to be useful is The Little Manual of Heraldry. Presently available in the 3rd edition, the Books Committee has assigned the task of creating a 4th edition that should be better organized and in color.

Review of heraldic competence is presently done on a case-by-case basis. This is done by the last surviving Registered Heraldist, but as more are granted this recognition, it is planned to make this a formal add-on to the heraldry training program.

Those interested in either program are encouraged to contact Headquarters.
