The Augustan Society, Inc., operates a Library, which has an Online Public Access Catalog or OPAC, running software called Koha. The Library website is hosted by RimuHosting, and its administration is assigned to the Assistant Webmaster.
The Assistant Webmaster is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Webmaster in consultation with the Librarian. He is granted full access to the site, including the administrative interface and the ability to grant administrative access to others. The website's public address is <library.augustansociety.org>, and the administrative address is <library.augustansociety.org:8081>.
The Assistant Webmaster is responsible for:
- Making all administrative changes to the site based on input from authorized individuals. The Librarian will be the primary source of data, but comments and corrections from whatever source should be given reasonable consideration.
- Working with the Heraldry Committee to obtain artwork as may be needed, and a Society logo on the main page is presently needed.
- Seeing that maintenance and updates are performed in a timely manner, including any needed conversion of the data format. Such changes should be coordinated with the Librarian so the system isn't down when staff are trying to use it.
- Ideally, becommnig sufficiently expert in the software that he can not only diagnose and repair problems, but train new users—both staff and public—in how to use the catalog to best advantage.
- Making appropriate use of links to other Society sites, which should open in a new tab. Outside links should be used with care, and must be verified as active and appropriate not less than annually.
- Establishing a calendar for himself that will cause him to visit and review the software status periodically to ensure that all is working properly and updates are made in a timely fashion.
