The Augustus Society, Inc., is a creation of law, and has at time need of an understanding of the law, legal advice, and in worst case, legal representation. To support these needs, it's appropriate to form a Legal Committee. It is lead by a Chairman who is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the President. The Chaiman may appoint such Members to his committee as he sees fit.
The duties of this committee will be as directed by the Board, the Chairman, or the President. It is expected that calls for this committee's assistance will routinely be referred to the Legal Committee Chairman by these three.
While there is no requirement that the Chairman or members of this committee be lawyers, nor that they be admitted to the bar of the state where the Society is headquartered or does business, it should be obvious that these would be very desirable qualifications.
Should the President determine that there are no qualified members willing to serve, the Society may hire legal council on an ad hoc basis.
If a Legal Committee is formed, the President will be an ex officio member.
