One of the Study Groups of The Augustan Society, Inc., is the Photo Collection Study Group. This group differs from most in that it focuses on the history of the Society and its members, rather than something of greater and more enduring value. Nonetheless, it is felt important that this data be captured while it is still possible to do so.

The purpose of this group is to review the photograph collection and to the extent possible, identify the individuals, locations, and dates thereof. Sadly, the Society has over 1.5 cubic feet of unattributed photographs, many showing members and former members. There is felt to be some urgency in their identification, as the members who might know the individuals and places shown grow fewer with the passage of time.

The process will be to scan the photographs, group them in such categories as might be found helpful, and placing them online at the AugustanConvert YahooGroup. Members will be invited to review the images, and to contributed to the identification. An opt-in email list is also being considered.

In the process of scanning and organizing the images, efforts will be made toward eliminating duplicates and images of no enduring value (sadly, there are many photos of the Society's cats which may fall into this category -- one shot of each cat will be retained). Processed photographs will be put into appropriate storage.
