The heraldic activities of The Augustan Society, Inc., include making referrals to governmental grant agencies where such exist. There is also a policy against registering arms to individuals or corporations located in countries with a valid heraldic grant agency. Thus a list of recognized government arms agencies is needed.

The following list has been recommended by the Justiciar General. It has not been reviewed by the Heraldry Committee nor has it been approved by the Board, both of which should be done before it is used for a basis of action.

His recommended list of Governmental Arms Agencies is:

  • UK (Scotland) - Lord Lyon King of Arms
  • UK (England / Wales / N Ireland) - College of Arms
  • Ireland - Chief Herald of Ireland
  • Canada - Canadian Heraldic Authority
  • South Africa - Bureau of Heraldry
  • Kenya - College of Arms (need to check exact nomenclature)
  • Spain (Castile and Leon) - Cronista Rey des Armas

The jurisdiction of most of these is obvious, but there may be some quirks, and some (such as the latter), have yet to be confirmed in law by our studies.
