This society The SDC was organized to further interest in the study of the Conquest and the individuals involved. Scholarly and genealogical data gathered are submitted to ''The [[The Augustan Omnibus]] '' and the [[Family of AugustansStudy Group]] project.
The society SDC is governed by a the [[Committee Chairmen|Deanof the SDC]], appointed by and answerable to the [[PresidentDean of Studies]] of the Augustan Society.
Membership in the society is open to those who meet the following qualifications for each class of membership:
* Conqueror class members must show a proven lineage to William the Conqueror; or* Companion class members must show a proven lineage to one of William's recognized companions.==Membership Classes==
Membership in the society is available in two non-exclusive classes: '''Conqueror Class''' is open to those who can prove a lineage from William the Conqueror. '''Companion Class''' is open to those who can prove a lineage from one of William's recognized companions. Petitioners may apply for both classes simultaneously for the same price. The entry fee is $100 for one or two classes at once; $50 for adding a another class later; plus a genealogist's fee of $5/generation the [[Genealogist Fee]] for each lineage submitted, including corrections and extensions. No fees need attach for lineages or portions of lineages already recognized by The Augustan Society, and a credit will be issued for any such duplication. ==Insignia==

All members, in whichever category, must submit the entry fee, and will receive the certificate of membership and the insignia of the Society. Members may belong to more than one class.
==Induction Process==
<ol>
<li>Petitioners must submit to [[Headquarters Staff]] a completed petition, payment of the Entry Fee, payment of the [[Genealogist Fee]], and such other evidence of qualification as may be needed. Headquarters Staff may complete the petition form if all data is supplied in another format.</li>
<li>Headquarters Staff will confirm that the lineage is in standard form and appears complete. Failing this, they will remand the lineage to the petitioner for additional information.</li>
<li>Headquarters Staff will forward the lineage to the [[Genealogy Committee]] for review. That Committee will convert the lineage into standard form and into a GED file, if needed.</li>
<li>If the petitioner is applying for both classes at once, the review will be conducted in parallel. Should there be a problem with one, the other will be put on hold, unless the petitioner chooses to split the petition and pay the additional fee for adding a class later.</li>
<li>The Lineage being accepted by the Genealogy Committee, Headquarters Staff will create a letter of welcome and a certificate of membership, these may be signed by the [[Dean of the SDC]] either physically or electronically at his discretion. If there is no Dean or they are unresponsive, the [[President]] will sign. Headquarters Staff will apply the [[Seal of the Corporation]] to the certificate before it is sent.</li>
<li>Headquarters Staff will notify the [[Augustæum Editor]] of the induction if the petitioner is an Augustan Member.</li>
<li>Headquarters Staff will notify the [[Custodian of Insignia]] of the induction.</li>
<li>The [[Custodian of Insignia]] will send the appropriate insignia with a cover letter.</li>
