"Buy-A-Box"

The Augustan Society, Inc., in an effort to supplement its operating budget in order to fund development of the Library, has created the "Buy-A-Box" campaign and the "Buy-A-Box" Fund.

The "Buy-A-Box" program asks for donations in multiples of $25, promising to catalog and shelve a "box" of books for each donation.

The program began with a list of categories, and the invitation for donors to select a category. It has since been revealed that the categories marked on the storage boxes do not correspond well with their contents. Careful records have not been kept of who has donated for which categories, and the bulk of donors have not specified. It has therefore been determined to discontinue offering specific categories, particularly as the storage situation does not permit the extraction of a specific topic.

The price was originally set by the cost of acid-free boxes on heavy-duty shelving, but is now assumed to be sufficient to purchase steel library shelving (which it is, provided that used shelving is obtained).

It has been determined that this fund may also be used to buy accessory storage equipment such as bookends and shelf boxes.

It has also been determined that this fund should no longer be used to buy acid-free boxes (they being superseded by shelving), nor is it available for rent or other purposes.

A promise has been made to honor the donors "in an appropriate fashion, probably a plaque" in Headquarters once the task is complete. For this reason, a careful accounting of the donors (and amounts) should be kept.

The quotation marks around "Buy-A-Box" should be maintained in all Society communications to prevent any misunderstanding.
