The Chivalry Department and the Chivalry Committee of The Augustan Society, Inc., are headed by the Chivalry Committee Chairman. He is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the President. This Chairman is responsible for the activities of the Chivalry Committee and overseeing any subcommittees.

The duties of the Chairman include:

  • Administering the activities of the Chivalry Committee, including review of petitions for Recognition of Orders of Chivalry and Recognition of Membership & Rank in Orders of Chivalry;
  • Appointing a Chivalry Committee Vice-Chairman within his first year in office, and keeping them sufficiently well informed that they may take over at need;
  • Appointing the members of the Chivalry Committee, including the chairmen of subcommittees and such others as he may see fit;
  • Assist or delegate, when called upon, with chivalric issues submitted by Augustan members or other committees;
  • Coordinate projects that fall under the scope of this committee; and
  • Submit an Annual Report to the Board each July, or at such other times as the Board or President may request, on the past year's activities and the following year's plans.
