The By-Laws of The Augustan Society, Inc., mention Honorary Membership without completely definign it. This page is an effort do do so.

Historically, Honorary Memberships were issued at the discretion of the Board or our Founder, usually to royals who could lend prestige to the Society, but who had no actual interest (plus a few with interest). There is no documentation of what standards applied to such appointments, and one supposes that the Board may exercise the authority to create these anew.

Honorary Members enjoy all benefits of membership other than voting. One suspects that complimentary subscriptions to The Augustan Omnibus were issued to some, but not all. (Some on the books in 2007 did not have mailing addresses on file.)

It would seem not unreasonable to establish guidelines for who might qualify for Honorary Membership and what benefits they would enjoy before another such is granted.
