Candidate Statement
To select Directors for the Board of Directors of The Augustan Society, Inc., elections are held. To aid members in voting wisely, Candidate Statements are solicited from all members nominated for election.
In order that all candidates are treated fairly, there is a firm limit of 100 words for such statements. This count is done by whatever rules are followed by staff's word processing software (presently LibreOffice), with the following exceptions:
- Name, including title and postnominals, are not counted.
- Society offices and titles are counted as one word each.
- Dates are counted as one word each, as is a range of years (as 1957-2006).
Under the Consuls, statements that exceed this length will be edited to fit. Depending on original length, this may be a trivial matter, or it could be a major overhaul. Post-Consuls, statements will be truncated at 100 words.
Whenever a statement is edited or truncated, the edited or truncated statement will be returned to the candidate for review, and amended submissions will be accepted up to the deadline. There will be no extension of the deadlines as a result of this action.
Such statements as are received by the deadline will be published on the back of the ballot, on a separate sheet, or in Augustæum when it is mailed with the ballots. For fairness, no extension of the submission deadline will be permitted.
