The Augustan Society, Inc., is creating a Heraldry Index to arms registered by the Society, and by other registries in the United States. This is felt to be a great need and potential service to the heraldic community in this non-armigerous nation. The associated web page is [here].
The contents of the index will come from several sources:
- The Augustan Society Roll of Arms
- Augustan Society Registrations of Arms (not all have been published)
- The New England Historic Genealogical Society Committee on Heraldry (who have kindly published their registrations online)
- The American College of Heraldry
- The American Heraldry Society
- Individual assumptions of arms that may come to our attention
- Other organizations and sources that may be discovered
An Ordinary of these arms with English blazons is also benig created to aid in the identification of emblazonments.
While this project is presently being conducted under the Communications Department, it is hoped that the Heraldry Department will some day elect to pick it up.
