The Augustan Society, Inc., has determined that there are situations that warrant the election of a member of the Society to a position of some honor that cannot be reflected by the existing honors system. To address this they have created the office of Director Emeritus.

Directors Emeriti must be elected to the position by a 2/3 majority of the total number of members of the Board of Directors, excluding the candidate if then a Director. Their status must be confirmed by a majority vote annually.

The duties of this office are:

  • To favorably represent the Society in all their dealings; and
  • To maintain their membership in Good Standing in the Society.

The privileges of this office are:

  • To be accorded the general privileges of members of the Board of Directors, including the right to be present and speak at meetings of the Board (but not to vote);
  • To receive, on request, mailings sent to members of the Board of Directors; and
  • To be accorded such privileges of precedence as may from time to time be granted by the Warrant of Precedence.

Directors Emeriti may be removed from office for cause by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.

Note: It shall be the style to refer to Directors Emeriti with Latin endings:

  • Director Emeritus, man
  • Directors Emeriti, men or men & women
  • Director Emerita, woman
  • Directors Emeritae, women
