Membership in The Augustan Society, Inc., may be in any one of three classes: Regular Membership, Life Membership, or Honorary Membership.

Staff procedures for handling each class are outlined on the pages linked above.

When a Petition for Membership or a Petition for Return to Membership in The Augustan Society, Inc., and payment are received at Headquarters, Consuls will perform the following tasks:

  1. Check the Master Roster to see if the petition is a former member. If so:
    1. Place his reelection on the next available Agenda for Board review and approval. The Board will want to know the petitioner's reasons for dropping his membership and returning, and Consuls should obtain such data before the meeting. If the cause is "financial" or "health", no further details are required.
    2. If the Board rejects the petition, so notify the petitioner and refund all but the Petition Fee (presently $15).
    3. If the Board re-elects the petitioner to membership, proceed as follows:
  2. Enter the petitioner's name in the Master Roster and assign a Membership Number (except for returning members).
  3. Create a letter of welcome from the Secretary (presently signed electronically).
  4. Create a Membership Card, signed by a Consul.*
  5. Create a Certificate of Membership, presently signed electronically by the President and Secretary, and affix the Corporate Seal.*
  6. Create a memo of welcome from the Consuls.
  7. Mail the above four items, plus the current Augustæum and the current Ominbus to the new member.
  8. Notify the Custodian of Insignia to send a Member Pin to the new member.*
  9. Enter the new member's data into the Roster.
  10. Send an email to the Directors informing them of the new member, unless they were a returning member, including the text of their petition.
  11. After two weeks, send a summary of their interests to the list of Committee Chairmen.
* Except returning members
