The officers of the Noble Company of the Rose, a dependency of The Augustan Society, Inc., include a Rose Chancellor.
According to the Rule of the Company, this officer is appointed by the Magister Rosae, confirmed by the Board, and serves at the pleasure of the former.
Statutory duties include:
- Service on the Rose Council
- Communicating invitations to membership from the Rose Council to potential members
Presumed duties include:
- Performing the duties normally assigned to a secretary for the Noble Company and for the Council of the Noble Company
- Overseeing the office of Rose Administrator in the performance of the secretarial duties of that role
Note: The office of Rose Administrator is normally filled by the Assistant Secretary of the Society.
Historical Note: The reason for invitations to be routed through the Rose Chancellor originally was that our Founder served as "Rose Chancellor for Life". This rule permitted him to prevent induction of the "wrong sort of knight". With the transition to Headquarters Staff, this provision is probably obsolete.
