Dean of the SDI
The Society of Descendants of Ireland (SDI), a dependency of The Augustan Society, Inc., is lead by a Dean appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the President. While it is greatly preferred that the Dean be a member of SDI, it is only required that he be a Member of The Augustan Society.
The Dean of the SDI is responsible for:
- Establishing and recommending amendments to the Charter of the SDI, for confirmation by the Board;
- Publicizing the existence of and means of joining the SDI;
- Informing members of the activities of the SDI;
- Maintaining the web page on the SDI, which may be expanded in cooperation with the Assistant Webmaster for ENS;
- Soliciting articles on the subjects of Ireland, Irish Kings and High Kings, and descents from Ireland for The Augustan Omnibus;
- Advising the Librarian on the selection of books and other materials on these subjects;
- Serving on the Finance Committee;
- Developing the annual budget for the SDI, in consultation with the Finance Committee; and
- Submitting a report to the Board (via the Assistant Secretary on the activities of the SDI annually in July, and at other times when requested.
General responsibilities for Deans are described on the page on Committee Chairmen.
While there is not presently a publication by and for this group and topic, there once was, and could be again. If done, this should include material that is for some reason not appropriate for either The Augustan Omnibus or Augustæum.
When there are at least five Augustans in Good Standing among the members, the Dean may call for elections to his office; when there are ten, he must. When there are 25, he may propose to the Board a Council to govern the society; when there are 50, he must.
