The officers of the Noble Company of the Rose, a dependency of The Augustan Society, Inc., include a Rose Chancellor.

According to the Rule of the Company, this officer is appointed by the Magister Rosae, confirmed by the Board, and serves at the pleasure of the former.

Statutory duties include:

  • Service on the Rose Council
  • Communicating invitations to membership from the Rose Council to potential members (now permitted by Headquarters Staff through "The Office of the Rose Chancellor")

Presumed duties include:

  • Performing the duties normally assigned to a secretary for the Noble Company and for the Rose Council
  • Overseeing the office of Rose Assistant Chancellor in the performance of the secretarial duties of that role

Note: The office of Rose Assistant Chancellor is normally filled by the Assistant Secretary of the Society.

Historical Note: The reason for invitations to be routed through the Rose Chancellor originally was that our Founder served as "Rose Chancellor for Life". This rule permitted him to prevent induction of the "wrong sort of knight". With the transition to Headquarters Staff, this provision no longer serves this function.
