In this modern age, it's not simply appropriate, but necessary that The Augustan Society, Inc., engage the public, our members, and various Study Groups with social media of a type appropriate to the purpose.

Facebook

This under the direction of the Facebook Moderator, is a public site used primarily to attract attention to the Society (and to block others from using our name there).

LinkedIn

There is an Augustan Society LinkedIn page. It is presently dormant, and serves primarily to reserve that name-space. No activity is expected until a moderator is named.

AugustanBoard YahooGroup

This under the direction of the Assistant Secretary, is a private forum intended for use by members of the Board and Consuls to discuss Society business, and perhaps conduct some preliminary conversations about items to come before the Board. Only 2/3 of the Directors are presently members, and fewer participate.

AugustanConvert YahooGroup

This under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief. It's a private forum for use by volunteers working on several projects:

  • Back Issue Digitizing — PDF files of back issues are posted, along with RTF files with the output of OCR software. Volunteers convert the latter into OCR files more nearly suitable for publication.
  • Photo Collection Study Group — Scans of photos from the Society's collection are posted here to solicit identification of the people and places depicted.

Because of storage limits and the tendency of these groups to involve different volunteers, this may be split into two or more groups in future.

AugustanHeraldry YahooGroup

This under the direction of the Arms Chancellor, it's a private group for the members of the Arms Registration Committee and Consuls to exchange files and maintain a database of petitions and registrations. It is presently inactive, as is the Committee.

ENS Forum

The Main Website, operating under EasyNetSites, includes a public forum feature. It was disabled at the order of the President as it did not have the ability to require a moderator's preview of posts. It could be reactivated by order of the President or Board if a moderator should come forth.

Twitter

A Twitter account has been proposed for the Society, but it has not yet been implemented for lack of a moderator and a source of frequent data to post. It is not expected that this will be activated until and unless the Facebook page gets a moderator and decent support, at which point diverting some of that data flow to Twitter will become relatively trivial.
