As part of it's service to the public, The Augustan Society, Inc., maintains a List of Chivalric Orders and Organizations of a Chivalric Nature Recognized by the Society.

This list is maintained by the Chivalry Committee, or by such Sub-Committee as they may establish. The list is published on the web site here.

Procedure for Recognition of Orders

A Petition for Recognition of an Order (of Chivalry or Organization of a Chivalric Nature) is submitted by any interested party, including the Chivalry Committee itself, along with any required fee.

The Chivalry Committee Chair may request permission from the Board to waive part or all fees for recognition on a case-by-case basis, so long as that petitioner is not a member of the Board of Directors, or a member of the Committee evaluating the petition.

They will then undertake a study of the organization, its fons honorum (calling on the Royalty & Nobility Committee for support as needed), and the claims it makes for its history and legitimacy.

The Committee will vote on recommending recognition of the organization, and forward favorable recommendations to the Assistant Secretary for inclusion on the next available Board agenda. Note that a favorable recommendation requires assent from a majority of the members of the Committee, less any who are obliged to recuse themselves. The number, but not the identity, of those assenting must be submitted to Headquarters.

The Committee will also forward any postnominals associated with the organization to the Webmaster for inclusion in the unofficial list of same.

The Board of Directors will vote on recognizing the organization, and if favorable the Assistant Secretary will so notify the Webmaster, who will add it to the online list.

Headquarters Staff will then send a Letter of Recognition to the original petitioner, with a copy to the Augustæum Editor for publication in the next available issue.

Procedure for Delisting of Orders

The Chivalry Committee may consider delisting any Order previously recognized, and should establish a schedule of review for all Orders previously recognized.

The Committee will undertake a study of the organization, its fons honorum (calling on the Royalty & Nobility Committee for support as needed), and the claims it makes for its history and legitimacy.

The Committee may vote on recommending delisting of the organization, and forward such recommendation to the Assistant Secretary for inclusion on the next available Board agenda. Note that such a recommendation requires assent from a majority of the members of the Committee, less any who are obliged to recuse themselves. The number, but not the identity, of those assenting must be submitted to Headquarters.

The Board of Directors will vote on delisting the organization, and if delisted, the Assistant Secretary will so notify the Webmaster, who will remove it from the online list.

It should be noted that delistings will be done quietly, and they will not receive notice in Augustæum.
